If you own a large, heavy, or bulky collection, Paragon Numismatics also will travel to your home, bank, or office to purchase your coins. There is no need to haul a collection across town! Coins are heavy, and your safety is important, so let Paragon Numismatics travel to the convenient location of your choice.
If you have a coin collection that you are thinking of selling, please keep a few things in mind.
- Never clean or polish your coins.
Leave your coins untouched in albums, envelopes, rolls, or books. Even the slightest scratch may devastate a coin's value.
- Old coins are not necessarily valuable. The level of preservation, the quantity that was produced, and the quantity that now survives all interact to determine a coin's present value.
- Beware of coins and sets sold with a certificate of authenticity. If someone needs to prove to you that a coin is rare and valuable, something is awry. High quality rare coins speak for themselves and do not need a fancy certificate to validate their merit.
- Most retail price guides do not accurately reflect the market value of your coins. Common bulk items often trade on the open market for a fraction of printed values. Similarly, some rare coins trade above published values.
- Store your coins in a cool, dry environment. Heat and humidity are a coin's worst enemy! A safe deposit box at your local bank provides a stable environment for coin storage. Bulky items such as proof and mint sets might require too much space at the bank, so store common items at home in a high quality fire-proof safe.
- Ask questions when you sell your collection, and involve yourself in the appraisal process. Selling your coins should be fun, so don't be afraid to ask for information during the appraisal. Naturally, a friendly positive attitude always helps the bottom line!
- Obtain local and national references from the dealer. If the dealer is reputable, he or she will gladly furnish a long list of professional and retail references. Ask the dealer about membership in national trade organizations and in the local Better Business Bureau
Paragon Numismatics takes pride in providing honest, professional service to collectors in Milwaukee and around the United States. We base the value of your collection on weekly price guides (Bluesheet and Graysheet) that accurately reflect supply and demand in the present market. We also use up-to-the-minute metals spot prices to determine the value of your common gold and silver bullion. There are no secrets here...we tell you up-front about pricing.
You always get what you pay for in life, and coins are no different. Expect to receive premium prices for your high quality rare coins and fair prices for average material. Collections assembled by conscientious, discriminating numismatists (and held for at least twenty years) generally reward the owner with a pleasing return at the time of sale. On the other hand, collectors that simply fill holes in an album are routinely disappointed at their coins' long-term performance. The moral of the story is to buy high-quality coins in the first place. If you take care of your coins, then your collection will take care of you.
Paragon Numismatics has bought and sold millions of dollars worth of rare coins since 1987, so we put our knowledge, experience, and integrity on the line every time we buy a collection. Most importantly, we recognize quality material, and we reward disciplined collectors who assemble a fine collection. If you have questions about our services, or if you would like to sell your coins, please contact us anytime by e-mail or by telephone at (262) 240-9975. We look forward to serving you.
